Rest of the World

A Steam friend of mine talked to me about his steam group which was called Rest of the World. Basically it’s a group in a sort of protest against companies selling their games on Steam exclusively to the US.

Now this is something that greatly appeals to me as I’m sick to death of companies excluding anyone out for anything. We have money, probably more so than Americans do with the steady decline of their economy, we seem to be willing to pay much more than Americans for our games also, so why stop it? Why? Just tell me.. Why? I’ll show the latest video and you can check the first one after the jump.

Moving on up!

Hey! just a quick update from Kaneda. Recently, I secured a deluxe apartment in the sky (10th floor), and am now embarking upon the laborious task of furnishing it. Today deskwatch, tomorrow, couchquest. My belongings finally arrived, not without incident, but they’re here. I’ll be back to working speed just as soon as I’m moved in. I need a desk before I can set up my gear, and a good chair before I can hunker down and work.
In other news, I’ve been playing some newish games (or new to me) lately, let’s hear the lowdown.

Battlefield: Bad Company.

This one is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it has fun moments, and some funny moment’s of dialogue. Lots of different weapons, and some slick graphics most of the time. On the other hand, it’s rather forgettable, in terms of story. The concept is good (soldiers pursuing gold) but the execution really doesn’t make the most of it. However, I would recommend this game based solely on the quality of the sound production. This has got to be, without a doubt, the best sounding game I have ever played. The dice audio guys really went all out here, and it shows.

Soul Caliber 4 (360)

first off, if you have the option to get this game, get it on the PS3. By now I’m sure you’re aware of the whole yoda/vader exclusivity. Frankly, I don’t think too highly of any of the star wars properties, so I didn’t really care at all about the characters when purchasing the game. However. as it turns out, Yoda, is the most unbalanced, ridiculous character I have ever seen in a fighting game. He’s too small to be hit by high attacks, and he cannot be grabbed, add to the fact that his jumping around makes him very difficult to hit, and you’ve got a recipe for cheapness. I cannot imagine vader being a less balanced character than yoda, so if the chance arises, pick up the PS3 version over the 360 one. Other than that, the game does not fail to impress. The fighting mechanics are still slick, the moves are expanded a bit, and the whole thing looks gorgeous. The character creator is also very powerful, and definately adds a ton of value. Haven’t tried online multiplayer yet, so can’t speak about that.

Burnout Paradise.

I played the demo for this game and was impressed , but not impressed enough to purchase. I’m a long time burnout fan, so this should have been a must buy, so the fact that I DIDNT purchase it on release, should speak to how I felt about the demo. Well, time’s come around and I find myself with the game, and let me tell you, this game is seriously the victim of a terrible demo. The full, expanded game feels completely different from the taste that’s available on the xbl marketplace. The full game features many fun mechanics (like having to find and takedown a car in order to acquire it) that really add alot to the game. As well as things like different types of cars having different boost mechanics, and the general size of the city, and soundtrack selection, all make this worth a second look, for those of you who dismissed it from the demo.

The time has come!

Sure, it’s machinima.com… but it’s also a lot of money. And if the money’s good, I’m all for it. We have two movies in which could both use some stars:

International Machinima Expo

Also named MachiniExpo, is now taking entries for it’s competition. You can check the site here, it’s going to be held in Montreal, Quebec over the 7th till the 9th of November.

Our good friends Phil Rice, Damian Valentine, Ingrid Moon and Ricky Grove (Jack’s voice in Jill’s Song) will be the driving force for organizing this event. Unfortunately I cannot make it to this as it’s exactly a week after the New York ‘Machinima 2008′ event but I’m sure there’ll be a lot of creative people at the event.

Check the site for their Facebook group etc to keep up to date.
