So. I’m not going to get into the brutal details of it, but I’d just like to say , that as of wednesday, all projects which I had been working on, which encompasses a pretty solid 8 months or so of work, are prematurely terminated. The data has been permanently lost, and cannot be recovered. Also lost is every single photograph I ever took, almost every script I ever wrote, and a healthy dose of custom skin work, map work, texture art, special unique mods, and Custom UT maps.
So. that’s that. I’ll try to get some clips of some of the lost conent up onto the interwebs. all that remains of these projects is low quality WIP renders, uploaded onto the litfuse FTP site. There’s quite a few projects that you didn’t even know were being worked on, that are now gone, quite a painful bit of loss eh.

Ouch, that sucks. Sounds like the hard drive I lost earlier this year.
Thing is, by most peoples judgement, I backed up adequately, onto two slave drives. it’s just that both of those drives lost their formatting.
I back up onto three different externals, two large slaves, and my FTP server. I think I have about an average of 4 different backups of every file. I keep one external in my fireproof safe, one I travel with so my laptop has access to the files, and the other is my desktop’s live access to the backups.
That sucks!

Also, yes I admit porn does take a chunk of my space. However, the fireproof safe is meant to keep it safe from: Fire, water, and tornadoes. Hence why it’s in the safest room in my basement. About a year and a half ago our phone line was hit by lightning, and it fried my machine and one of it’s hard drives. Luckily, not the hard drive with my PORN! Oh god that would of sucked. But of course it had my newest modeling work. So I’ve fallen into a paranoid state of redundant backups.

You guys work so damn hard on everything it’s retarded that it would just up and disappear.
If the drives just lost formatting due to even a small failure there is always hope. I’ve recovered data from users machines where the hard drive clicked, bashed, and hardly read.
It takes alot of effort but between using partition magic, Acronis disk software, fast track data recovery software, linux/unix/mac discs/computers to read the data, me and my coworkers would backup and recover stuff for people all the time.
Hell we accidental formatted someones computer before we did the backup and managed to get all the important stuff back.
If you have another drive that could hold the exact same amount of data or more you can use linux/unix commands to do an exact copy of all 1’s and 0’s of the drive then attempt a recovery from that drive.* This way if the recovery process messed with the data it would leave the original drive untouched since you only read data from it, never wrote to it.
*Note the copying of a whole disk like that can take six hours for a 120GB, a 500 would probably take a weekend.
Sorry if it’s long winded but even though I’m an amateur compared to the professionals there are still many ways.
