Choose the logo

Basically I’m in a pickle. Filipe was/is a bit busy lately and I needed to proceed a little with getting a logo for the Gears vid I’m doing, named Flying Fenix. So I got a guy called Art Williams who shown some interest in doing some graphics for us to do the logo.

Then Filipe came online and I wanted to see what he would do and so he made one also. I then had 2 designs and when I was going to use one of them for the video (won’t say which), the guys at work said they actually liked the other one better.

So you guys have to choose, or just say they’re both poo and need improving but you have to give ideas on what to improve on. Which one? 1 or 2?

    I like the 2nd one.

  2. 2 Slique

Definitely the second (which I’m guessing is Phil’s?). The metal-texture just seems to work better, and the layout itself is more aesthetically pleasing. Plus it also puts more emphasis on the ‘Fenix’, which, seeing as it’s a GoW-based movie, is a vital subtle point.

    So yeah, #2!

  3. 3 Cubeman

2nd one, I guessed by your avatar it involved something with gears of war :P i was right.

  4. 4 Larsa

    2nds best

  5. 5 Zachariah

    logo 1. ignore these chumpfaces!

  6. 6 Matt Oakes

Easily 1. Number 2 is just boring really. Logo 1 is much more interesting and will stand out more :D

  7. 7 Slique

I actually thought the opposite, Matt. The colour and arrangement of #1 is just far too passive, and doesn’t draw the eye as much as the #2, which seems tostand a lot more off the page/screen. Plus, its more in keeping with the context and visualisation of the film itself (though granted most of you aren’t aware of that yet).

  8. 8 Phantom

    they’re both poo

  9. 9 Michael

Fuck sake Phantom, you’re fucking useless!

“but you have to give ideas on what to improve on”

number 1 works best graphically. It’s sleek, Sexy, and most importantly, Uses the gears of war font.

  11. 11 Anonymous

redo number 1 in the font of number 2, if you know what I mean.

  12. 12 Grog

Number 1. Its got more style. 2’s too plain and boring.

  13. 13 Sir_Sid

They are both great, but number 2

  14. 14 Michael

I’ll place my vote. I like the way the first has the bar to compliment the title but I like the texture the second brings. Wonder if Filipe can replicate some texture on the first one.

  15. 15 anton1r

I prefer the first one, but id like to see some kind of texture on it. then its done!

  16. 16 Lemming77

I’ll admit the first one looks more interesting, but the bits that have been scratched away don’t look very nice… I’m sure that’d look awesome if done right.

  17. 17 Niels Gade

I think #2 is pretty much perfect.

  18. 18 Triin

It really depends on what you want the feel to be. The second one jumps out and says, “Hey I’m here!” whereas the second one is a bit more subdued. I would also agree that the second one is a little bland, it only catches attention because it is bold. I like the first one better, because it can catch attention with the fact that it is interesting to look at, not just yelling in your face.

  19. 19 El Portero

    one for sure

  20. 20 Michael

    Nice comment Triin.

  21. 21 Triin

Looks like I failed at my wording in the previous comment. It was meant to be that the first one is more subdued, not the second. And, thanks.

  22. 22 does it really matter?

    1 ftw

A combination of the two would be epic…or something of the like. The appeal of the first one is that it is clean cut, however looks worn, eroded. The second one, while being metallic, is rather boring. It’s good at first but seems very cookie-cutter-standard-boring-text-filter-from-a-box.

Combine the two, the metal is good, but lower the amount of bevel you have on it, to reduce the awkward edging. Then break it apart. Shattered metal, maybe even add rust or something, will look good. You can then simply use a outlined black and white, like the first one, whenever you need a letterhead or for printing purposes, and the more aesthetically pleasing graphic, for more appropriate mediums. It’ll keep it recognizable and distinct.

(if you want some reference perhaps, Google Image Search, Farcry. Take a look at the FarCry text and FarCry2 text.)

    what he said

  25. 25 ChiZ

    Logo #1 !

  26. 26 SGT MattyW

    Gotta go for NUMBER 2.

  27. 27 Liquid Citrus

Logo #1 looks very stylized, with its box and worn-away looking bits. However, the words should be resized so the emphasis is more on the Fenix part of the title instead of the Flying part.

  28. 28 Rovanion

I would go for number one, it’s the cleaner, more stylized one.

  29. 29 Mystfit

Meh, I like the grunge of number 1 but 2 has shiny metal.

What to do, what to do.

  30. 30 guniv

    2nd ftw

  31. 31 guniv

    2nd ftw

  32. 32 -=Tar=-

I like the first one, but the texture on it needs some more contrast, it just doesn’t seem to pop.

  33. 33 twe4ked

the first one has a better design but the second has a better texture, if u go with the second tho, put it on some metal or somthing, put it in a rectangle.

  34. 34 Michael

Filipe’s in the making of merging both.

  35. 35 Breakdown

    First one.

  36. 36 Combine 017

I like them both, maybe if you could some how fuse them together and make a super logo.

  37. 37 William Erasmus

Well, here’s my opinion. Number two has better design with the way “FENIX” is larger than “FLYING”. In that sense, it looks better. However, the first has the style of Gears of War. Also, the first is a little hard to read at first glance.
Perhaps mesh the two by making the first one’s “FENIX” larger than the word “FLYING” somehow?

Nonetheless, in my opinion the second is better.

  38. 38 Teleck

    #1

  39. 39 dave

    # 2 looks like a ford commercial, #1 definitely has the gears look.

  40. 40 Dune

    # 1!!!!
